Herb first assisted me when I hired him to help with the interior design of my fan house. He helped transform the house while incorporating the furniture that I already had. A few years later, Herb helped my husband and I declutter our house to get it ready to sell. The house was able to remain very livable during the time on the market. We were pleasantly surprised when our house had multiple contracts on it and sold within the first days. The staging really showed off the space in the house. Herb is a very talented, fun individual to work with.

MASTERBATH – FORT LAUDERDALE FL

Tumbled stones were used on the walls, floors and walk-in shower to create a meditteranean feel of a vintage and weathered look. Down lights create a subtle and soothing atmosphere casting shadows from the antique African masks and emphasize the texture of the stones.

DINING AREA – FT. LAUDERDATE FL.

The rod- iron furniture exemplifies the Mediteranean design, combined with the terracotta tile flooring. Positioning of the dining area was created to take advantage of the views while seated from any angle. The reflections in the custom full height mirrored screens, bring the outside view of the river and tropical gardens into the interior space.

DINING AREA FAN DISTRICT, RICHMOND VA

An eclectic feel was achieved by using Chippendale chairs around a Ming detailed table base (designed by Pulliam) with a glass top to show off the details of the intricate base and to fully view the chairs. A 400 year old cannonball chandelier from a castle in Ireland was installed above the dining table. The contrast of the zebra rug on the dark heart pine floors, solidifies the designers intent to create the blending of the styles into one fabulous space.

ENTRANCE HALL – GREENSBORO NC

A mirrored wall is the backdrop behind the double headed ram, prayer stool from Thailand, and framed wall mirror. The French lime stone floors combined with the furnishings create an Asian flair and design of a different era.

LIVING ROOM – A COLLECTORS SPACE FOR ART AND ANTIQUE FURNITURE – PRIVATE RESIDENCE, RICHMOND VA.

The classic Virginia mantle and raised moulding over the fireplace, paired with the grandfather clock and the governor Winthrop desk, create a sense of old southern comfort and hospitality of a time gone by.

Collections of artwork, family heirlooms, and trinkits collected from around the world feel right at home on the walls and bookcases of this room, all wanting to tell of their journey on how they happened to be where they are. The zebra rug strewn on the solid wood floors only exemplifies the feel of the worldly travels of the home owner.

LIVING ROOM – MANAKIN SABOT

KOI

There is nothing more calming than the sound of water rushing over rocks and pooling in a clear koi pond. Water elements and features are a necessity for the complete backyard experience of relaxation.

SEATING OUTSIDE

Outdoor living spaces pull the indoors, outside. By creating venues for eating drinking and lounging, an extention of the home is created in the gardens. This makes anyone looking out through windows or doorways feel that the house continues on into a space without walls.

IRIS POND

This man-made natural water element creates a surprise in a garden when it is happened upon. The natural shore line and the plants cascading out over the water’s edge create a feeling that the water feature is indigenous to the setting.

RIVER PATIO

A tropical garden leading straight to the river’s edge, creates a sense of excitement and destination. The pathway bedding is made up of tumbled marble , keeping the foliage down to a minimum and defining the path.

Walls don't always have to be painted to accentuate a room with color. Here the furniture in all its simplicity brings in the color and warms the room. The back painted bookcases help create a backdrop for the accessories and collections stored on them. It's always important to maintain proper circulation thru the room and still allowing comfortable seating groups that work well together.

Creating an entrance into a space is sometimes just as important as the space itself. Flanking the opening into the dining room with window panes created a sense of arrival. Pairing the two additional chairs outside the entrance help create more interest and provides extra seating that is close to the dining area if needed. Notice the placement even beyond the dining area of the lamp in the entry hall that pulls you through the space and continues ones journey throughout the rest of the house.

Layering of furniture is a great way to group items for function as well as for visual effects. Notice how the wing back chair was strategically placed next to the grand piano to allow a guest to quietly sit by and observe and feel immersed into the music of the pianist. Adding the small side table with the lamp and additional small chair help create a cozy place to relax and enjoy the music.

Simplicity is inspiring. Sometimes all it takes is a few pictures on the wall and a few furniture elements to creat a space that is done well without being overstated. The floor was softened by adding a new area rug to break up the monotony of all the wood in this particular space. It quieted the room and added that extra sense of elegance.
